![]() ![]() Facebook Messenger makes it easier for people who want to meet by allowing friends to share their location. © 2024 NYP Holdings, Inc.This particular feature is a more consensual approach to tracking. We explain this to people, including in our Privacy Basics site and on the About Facebook Ads site. We do use IP and other information such as check-ins and current city from your profile. And users can’t turn the feature off:įacebook does not use WiFi data to determine your location for ads if you have Location Services turned off. The latter already displays ads, while the former is going to deliver advertising to users next year.įacebook confirmed to Gizmodo that it’s tracking users by collecting IP addresses as well as data from check-ins and other content. Of course, that’s not necessarily a viable option for specific apps, especially chat apps like WhatsApp and Instagram. But if you’re concerned about Facebook tracking your location, the only thing you can do right now is to remove all Facebook apps from your phone and stop using it altogether. Or lawmakers in certain markets may force it to address these issues. Imagine opening Facebook during a visit to an abortion clinic to communicate with friends for support in a difficult decision, and instead, seeing an ad campaign for cute baby clothes created by anyone who wants to target women making this difficult decision.įacebook could change its location-tracking policies to actually give users control over the data they choose to share in the future if it wanted to. And since individuals cannot meaningfully stop Facebook from inferring or using their location for advertising, they also cannot avoid such ads. This means anyone in the world can create an ad campaign to reach people who have recently visited a particular location, such as a place of worship or an abortion clinic. The professor also offers the following example: But there may be cases where people could abuse this feature, since Facebook allows ad targeting down to a very small geographic area. Also, many internet users have no problem with Facebook swiping their location data for ads. And Facebook does need to make money to keep providing its services. Some people may argue that it’s all standard operating procedure for companies that offer online services for “free,” with ads showing in the background of everything you do. The report explains that Facebook isn’t really forthcoming about its location tracking, nor is it willing to offer users controls that would prevent the social network from using IP addresses or Wi-Fi data to locate users. But the location-related ads keep popping up. Location tracking is turned off for all ads and she doesn’t share photos with location data on Facebook. ![]() She says Facebook can’t glean information about her from her other interactions with Facebook or its other apps, such as WhatsApp, Instagram or Facebook Messenger. Moreover, I have noticed that whenever I travel for work or pleasure, Facebook continues to keep track of my location and use it for advertising: a trip to Glacier National Park resulted in an ad for activities in Whitefish, Montana, a trip to Cambridge, MA - in an ad for a business there, and a visit to Herzeliya, Israel - in an ad for a business there. Even though the Location Services setting was turned to “Never” in the iPhone Facebook app, and Location History was cleared and turned off, Facebook still showed Korolova ads that matched her location. University of Southern California computer science professor Aleksandra Korolova explained how Facebook does it in great detail on Medium. And all of this happens as Facebook continues to give users the impression they can control whether they share location data with Facebook. Even without access to your accurate location data from the smartphone, Facebook uses information from your browsing habits, including IP address, Wi-Fi network, and Bluetooth to pinpoint your whereabouts and place relevant ads inside its apps. Facebook does indeed track your location when you’re using its apps, and it’s all done to serve targeted ads to users. ![]() If you’ve ever felt like Facebook always knows where you’ve been in spite of adjusting settings in its mobile apps to stop the app from accessing your location, then you’re not the only one. ![]() ![]() my question pertains more to the working file and how much resolution is considered overkill. heck, the client may want to handle the printing himself. Without knowing what the printing method will be in the end. What I wanted to know, essentially, was if there was any point working in a document that was 24"x36" 300dpi? In other words, is it likely that I will EVER be printing the poster at that size and resolution? Because PSD's can get ridiculously big very fast at those settings. Sorry, my bad for not being clearer with my question. I hope all goes well with the poster design.įrom: Re: Ideal resolution (dpi) for standard 24"x36" posters? So the lower resolution makes the file a lot more managable before the CMYK separations are done. If I remember right, at 8 bit, 2' x 3' in 300 ppi is around 150 mgb. Thus, you have a very good chance of a win-win situation at this point, and everyone is happy. And if the poster prints at a lower resolution, then both parties have a higher quality file than can be lowered for printing. At 175, this may be the line count the poster is printed at, and a possibly good match for both party's needs. But he did not state if that was as a designer or if it was as printing company. I say this as one previous poster here stated 150 was fine for him. ![]() Most color printing is done in China now, and though they do remarkable work in the high resolution area, I suspect 175 would be a fair working resolution. If it goes to a sheet fed press, probably never. what resolution are most 24"x36" Hollywood posters done in? Then I was told printers will print movie posters at 72dpi so anything above that is wasted anyway. Others find that resolution too demanding on the computer, and work at half-size (150dpi). There has long been debate at the various studios I worked for regarding ideal poster size resolutions.įor 24"x36" posters, some studios work in full 300dpi. So I use 300 as my default for image printing.įrom: Ideal resolution (dpi) for standard 24"x36" posters? If used for printing a photo, that image looks rasterized or chunky in its smoothness. Take this information as only a starting point for your research.Īs a photographer, I see 72 ppi as fuzzy crap for the web. It might be 72 dpi / lines per inch on really large items that are viewable from a larger distance. So a 320 ppi Tiff would equate to a 160 line CMYK screen printing quality. For a standard 24×36 inch poster, a frame with dimensions of 24×36 or 24.25×36.25 inches is ideal. The frame size will determine the maximum size of the poster that can be used. Some companies want the photos submitted at twice the resolution before conversion for printing. When choosing a movie poster size, it’s important to consider the frame dimensions you’ll be using to display the poster. If memory serves right that is the lowest line level for decent looking printing. For the size of poster you mentioned, not to mention that most posters of the size are viewed close up by the public, I would expect the image quality to be around 160 to 175 lines per inch. I used to run printing presses for 30 years but am now out of that business due to the economy. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() BMI categories and corresponding BMI prime and risk levels CategoryĪs you can see, there is a moderate risk in being underweight, but obesity is certainly a primary risk factor for different sorts of causes for mortality. There are different approaches to categorization, but below is the widely accepted WHO categorization. ![]() Individuals are classified in several BMI categories (classes) according to their mortality risk. 77 / 3.16 = 24.36, so your BMI is ~24, putting you just in the healthy weight range for your given height. If you also weigh 170 pounds, that is 170 * 0.453 = 77 kg. If you do not, some conversions might be necessary.įor example, if you are 5 feet 10 inches tall, that is 5 x 12 + 10 = 70 inches. Then just multiply your height by itself, and then divide your weight by the result. So, how to calculate BMI knowling the formula above? It is a straightforward task, especially if you already know your height and weight in meters and kg. Weight is referred to as "mass" in medical literature, while height is often called "stature". Of course, in our online BMI calculator you can enter either SI units or imperial metrics for height (feet and inches) as well as weight pounds for weight. BMI formulaīMI (kg/m 2) = weight (kg) / height 2 (m) See below for a list of BMI categories (classifications). The bigger your calculated BMI is, the greater the risk for cardiovascular complications like hypertension, type II diabetes, some types of cancer, renal disease, degenerative arthritis, gallstones, all of which have links to excessive weight relative to one's height. The importance and usefulness of the index and hence any Body Mass Index calculator is in its curvilinear relationship to all-cause mortality. In general, BMI is useful when applied to adults, but may be ill-suited when used for young children or even teenagers where the waist to hip ratio and body fat estimates may be more informative. The modern term "body mass index" (BMI) was coined in a paper published in the July 1972 edition of the Journal of Chronic Diseases by Ancel Keys et al., in which it was argued that what was defined as BMI was ".if not fully satisfactory, at least as good as any other relative weight index as an indicator of relative obesity". The concept of the BMI is due to one Adolphe Quetelet - a Belgian astronomer, mathematician, statistician and sociologist and his work on "social physics" between 1830 to 1850. Our BMI calculator also requires just these two measurements as input and the output is in the units BMI is measured: kg per square meter (kg/m 2), which is often left out in both writing and speech. The simplicity of the body mass index calculation is one of its advantages: to calculate it one only needs to know his or her weight and height. Body Mass Index (BMI) is an index that attempt to quantify the amount of muscle, fat, and bone mass in an individual, and categorize them as underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese, based on the index value. ![]() ![]() ![]() "I didn't know." or "it was just a joke" are not legitimate excuses.
